Zoodochos Pigi Monastery

The largest monastery in the isand, between Gavrio and Batsi. Its year of foundation is not known, however it is mentioned that during the byzantine times it operated as a school while in 842 it became a monastery by the empress Theodora. Until 1928 it used to be a male monastery but later it changed to a female one. Within its church of byzantine rhythm with a wooden carved iconostasis and postbyzantine painting decoration, there are icons of the 14th and the 16th century. Also, there is a full library, museum with recipients and sacred vestments as well as prehistoric tools. You will get to the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi via a dirt road which begins from Agios Kyprianos or via a path from Batsi.
