The Castle of Faneromeni

From Kochylou, a traditional village of exceptional view and special architecture, there is a road that leads to the Castle of Faneromeni or Upper Castle or the Castle of Gria. It is the largest medieval town in Andros, built by the Venetians from fear of the pirates. It is constructed in an altitude of 600m in the north of Korthi Cove and impresses with the sheer rocks –one of the reasons why it was considered an impregnable castle, the ruins of the old walls and houses, the church of Faneromeni and the magnificent view to the Aegean.
