Old Port of Syros

On the left side of the natural cove of Syros, you can see one of the first public buildings of modern Greece, the old Transit Storehouses. The buildings were erected during the period 1834-1839 in order for the ships to approach and unload straightaway; however, today they house certain public services. At the Old Port, you will also see the Commercial Navy School where there was the first Telegraph Office in Greece as well as the neo-classical Customs Office building which today houses the Cyclades Art Gallery with permanent collections and temporary painting exhibitions. At Lazareta position you will be able to admire the imposing Quarantine establishment.
