Ano Syra
Ano Syros 841 00, GreeceWithout doubt it is the most beautiful quarter in Ermoupoli, a residential web of imposing bourgeois manors of the 19th century, east of the capital. Vaporia was formed when the wealthy refugees from Psara, Chios, Kasos and Crete decided to build there their captain houses. The impressive buildings which were built on the sheer, wave beaten rocks distinguish for their elaborate decoration, the gigantic wood crafted doors, their marble balconies and the “heavy” pieces of furniture in the inside. At the quarter the magnificent church of Agios Nikolaos prevails with its castellated bell towers and the Ecclesiastical Museum.
