Tomb of Homer

In Plakoto location, on a hill over the homonymous beach, there is Homer’s tomb who is said that died and buried in Ios, place of origin of his mother, Klymeni as it is mentioned in Herodotus and Pausanias’ texts. Another version claims that the ancient epic poet was killed by fishermen of the island when he did not manage to find their riddle. At the spot where there is Homer’s tomb, the archeologists mention that there was also found a coin that depicted the poet.
