The Minoan Palace Of Knossos

Built on Kefalas hill, 3 miles southeast of Heraklion, it was the largest administrative center of the Minoan civilization, and today is one of the most popular archaelogical sites in Greece. the excavations began in 1878, but the revelation of the palace took place when Sir Arthur Evans was in charge (1900 – 1913 and 1922 – 1930). The building complex covers an area of 5 acres and includes King Minos’ Throne Room. According to the myth, Daedalus, a skilful craftsman and artist, designed the elaborate architectural structure with the labyrinthine corridors leading to the palace chambers in order to isolate the Minotaur, a creature with a human body and a bull’s head.
