Two kilometers from Melanes at Kalamitsia area , is the Palace of the Jesuits. This palace was constructed in 1673 by the Jesuit
monk Robert Soze . Its construction was aimed at recovery and reflection of the monks who were removed from the country in a
verdant valley. The site of the palace included laundry, cook, stables for animals, bedrooms, hostels, and an excellent construction pigeon. More generally, the palace was the center of intellectual, and economic activity of the Jesuits in the hinterland of Naxos after the estates worked as foreigners the locals. Today is abandoned in very poor condition.
