Museum of Marble CraftsTinos, Greece
At the modern museum in Pyrgos, which was founded in 2007 by Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, the history of marble is presented, from the extracting in the quarries to its conversion from shapeless mass to artwork. Except for the marble technology, the tooling equipment and techniques are thoroughly described as well as the social framework in which marble crafts has been developed in the workshops of Tinos. Among the exhibits of the permanent collection you wil find several projects made of marble, tools that used in marble crafts and quarries, archives and the most complete collection of designs of old marble sculptures. At the outdoor areas of the museum, the mechanical equipment that is used in marble crafts is exhibited together with complete or semi-finished marble artworks.
